The question “What is your favorite kanji glyph?” was asked to staff at the Type Project.
In this article, we don’t just talk about single glyph mentioned in the answers, we talk about kanji glyphs by radical.
・
Kanji with “road” or “advance” radical (“shin nyo radical”):
I like kanji with the “road” or “advance” radical that look solid in block style in particular.
・
“冾” (and other kanji with “ice” radical):
I chose this because this is the first kanji I created, and the radical in charge was checked many times by senior designers.
・
Sakenotori radical:
I like it because of a peculiarity in the way of naming the radical. Because “hiyominotori” is too chic, I think it is more approachable with “sakenotori.” I have to think about weight adjustment in creation, and I think this is a troublesome radical.
When creating kanji at Type Project, categorization is made by radical for divided work, so the shape of each radical, the impression received from the name, and memories of actual creation may all be factors for designers when looking at kanji.
