JunMaru Mincho Development Story 1: “Thread of Kana Connection”

Although the structure is the same for Jun Mincho and JunMaru Mincho, there is a difference in the design policy regarding details.

Jun Mincho features the length of the thread in connection of kana. Jun Mincho Hairline in particular is sharply long, which leads to the elegance of the flow of a brush. Coupled with its tightened structure, it gives a classical impression.

In comparison, the thin weight of JunMaru Mincho has a shorter thread of connection than Jun Mincho. This is noticeable in the thread of connection from the vertical movement to the horizontal stroke in “あ, お, き,” etc. Due to the connection to the next stroke, the thread of connection has the property of a long and thin tip. Therefore, it is short in JunMaru Mincho, in which the tip is round and thick. In addition, the shape is created to harmonize with the uroko kanji shape. While maintaining roundness in the details of the strokes, and a shape featuring the fat thickness of the tip, the appearance is correct and unimposing because of its shortness.
