【Interview】TBS VISION “World Heritage”

“World Heritage” screens on TBS TV every Sunday, the concept of the program is to act as an
archive of beautiful imagery that preserves world heritage for future generations. It celebrated
its 20th broadcast anniversary in April 2015 with a revamping, and has freshly adopted TP
Mincho as its telop typeface. We have interviewed Shingo Ohya, Director of TBS Vision.



The overall design of Toshima Ecomusee Town was carried out by Nihon Sekkei, Inc., while Kengo Kuma & Associates was responsible for the external appearance. Nihon Sekkei chose Terada and his associates to plan the signage. AXIS Font was chosen to maintain a neutral relationship even across a variety of materials such as stainless steel, wood and glass. We have interviewed Naoki Terada who states that architecture, interior products, and signs are all interconnected.


【Interview】Starbucks Coffee Japan, Ltd.

Starbucks has established over 20,000 shops across 66 countries, with its mission, “To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time.” They adopted AXIS Font as its corporate font. We have interviewed Satoshi Kawakami, Creative Specialist of Starbucks Coffee Japan.

【Interview】Christian Schwartz, Commercial Type

Commercial Type is a joint venture between New York-based Schwartz and London-based designer Paul Barnes. They have collaborated since 2004, since teaming up to design type for The Guardian, a daily newspaper in London. Commercial Type is now our FitFont service partner, we interview with Christian Schwartz.

Launched Tokyo CityFont

Type Project Inc. has launched new city font project, Tokyo CityFont. Tokyo CityFont is producing for the indicator plates of Tokyo’s town blocks, based on digital sign system fonts that we already in development. It will disply at Yoshiaki Irobe’s exhibition start from September 2 at Ginza Graphic Gallery .

Announcing TP Mincho FitFont

Type Project has announced a new service; TP Mincho FitFont. Type Project has developed adjustable functions that make it possible to retain a balanced state with proper character proportions, even when the weight, contrast or character width is changed. FitFont Service makes use of these functions to create fonts that are capable of dynamic variations while still preserving design consistency and quality. TP Mincho FitFont have 21 contrast levels and 51 weight levels, allowing for a total of 1,071 variations. This service has made it possible to select the most compatible Mincho typeface for each monitor size and screen resolution.
